This Privacy Policy explains what personal information The SCOTX Report collects, how we use it, and who we share it with. It covers visitors to this Site, people who subscribe to our email digest, and people who create an account. It does not cover the parties, attorneys, or other individuals named in the court orders, opinions, and filings we summarize—that's public information created by the courts, not something we collect about you as a user of this Site (see Section 6).
If you just browse the Site: we don't collect anything about you beyond standard server logs kept by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, for security and reliability purposes. We don't run analytics or advertising trackers of any kind.
If you receive the email digest: your email address, which our email delivery service uses to send it and to honor unsubscribes. If you have an account, your account details are described next.
If you create an account: your first name, last name, email address, employer, and job title, plus a password. Your password is never stored in plain text—it's run through a one-way cryptographic hash before it ever touches our database, so even we can't see it.
To operate your account and let you log in, to send the weekly email digest and case-update emails if you've asked for them, to send account-related emails like password resets, and to respond if you email us directly.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers. We use a small number of service providers to run the Site, each of which processes data on our behalf under their own privacy terms:
The only cookie this Site sets is a session cookie used to keep you logged in after you sign in. It's marked HttpOnly and Secure, meaning it can't be read by scripts and is only ever sent over an encrypted connection. We don't use tracking or advertising cookies.
Case names, party names, and other details in our case summaries come directly from public court filings and opinions—records created and made public by the Texas courts, not information we collected about you. Appearing as a party, attorney, or otherwise in a case we summarize doesn't mean we hold any personal data about you beyond what's already public; we have no relationship with, and don't track, individuals mentioned in case summaries who aren't also registered users or subscribers of this Site.
We keep your account and subscription information for as long as your account is active or you remain subscribed. If you'd like your account deleted or your data removed, email contact@scotxreport.com and we'll take care of it.
Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also turn the weekly email on or off, and update your email address, employer, and job title, at any time from your account page. Turning emails off does not close your account. You can request deletion of your account or data at any time by emailing us.
This Site is intended for practicing attorneys, law students, and others professionally interested in Texas Supreme Court practice. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time; the "Last updated" date above will reflect the most recent revision.
